With lots of hope and expectation that raised from the trailer, Utsav
is released inside Kathmandu valley only from today. Utsav postponed
its release outside Kathmandu valley due to lack of availability of
theaters. Utsav is written and directed by Kumar Bhattarai starring
Saugat Malla, Gaurav Pahari, Sanjog Koirala, Sandip Chettri, Menuka
Pradhan and Prakriti Shrestha in lead role. Movie is produced by Shekhar
Koirala.
Story:
Utsav is the
story of four friends Zimba, Kaji, Urvashi, Nisha and Naren. They all
study together and they share every moments of their life together.
Zimba is passionate on music and singing. He plays at a pub in Thamel
every evening. Kaji and Urvashi are like Tom and Jerry, always fighting
on small things. Naren falls in love with Nisha. Their life goes with
full fun and enjoyment. When Zimba’s mother passes, he takes the
responsibility of his step brother. Zimba’s step brother had a blood
cancer and to save him for longer time he should manage atleast ten
thousand per day for his treatment. His father doesn’t support him so he
sells his composition to one rich guy named as Raunak who wants to
become popular. While having fun Naren satires Zimba about his personal
life due to which they had a fight and Zimba gets out of contact. Kaji
also leaves for America and Nisha and Naren gets married. When Kaji
returns from America after two years he finds Zimba’s songs becoming
blockbuster but it has been sung by someone else. So he tries to find
out the mystery behind this and search Zimba. Will he be able to find
out his friend Zimba? Where is Zimba and what happened to him and his
step brother? To know all these you have to go to the theater and watch
Utsav.
What’s Good:
Engaging
screenplay, Kumar Bhattarai’s direction, actors performance which are
superb, music which will please your ears, colorful cinematic
experience, many scenes in the movie which are impressive, every
characters are well justified.
What’s Bad:
Almost nothing. Though few scenes in post interval could have been edited which may feel movie is too lengthy.
Utsav Review – Last Word:
Two important things I would like to add on Utsav:
1.
One of the important drawbacks of Nepali movies is on screenplay of the
movie. The only thing that disappoints audiences is due to the
screenplay of the movie which doesn’t engage audience. After Loot, Utsav
is the movie which has such a wonderful screenplay where every
characters are well justified and adds something to the movie.
2.
Second important thing to add is about the release of Utsav. Movie is
released in such time when there is so much crowd of movies at theater
which is one of the strong negative point for such a good movie that
deserves to be watched by the audience. And Kohinoor is still doing
superb business which postponed the release of Utsav outside valley
which will minus the business of movie to some extent.
Kumar
Bhattarai has presented movie in such a way that it will hold you
inside the theater throughout the movie. You will get colorful cinematic
experience which will please your eyes. Another strong point of the
movie is the performance of the actors. Everyone has done brilliant job.
Saugat Malla, Gaurav Pahari have done superb work whereas Sanjog
Koirala has a good potential to grow as a lead actor of Nepali movies.
Child actor Samyak Tamrakar has done good work. At second half movie
could have been edited to shorten at some places. Movie is sure shot to
be loved by the audiences. But business of the movie will depend upon
the availability of the theaters and also Kohinoor’s ongoing attack on
business may affect somehow.
Celebrate Utsav with your
friends and family. A purely entertaining movie which has engaging
screenplay, good music, good performance by actors which is sure to win
the hearts of audiences. A must watch movie. Don’t miss.
